NHS INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITIES
NATIONAL HELLENIC SOCIETY SUMMER 2018 INTERNSHIP
Internship Overview:
The National Hellenic Society (NHS) is searching for interns for the summer of 2018. The intern will assist the NHS’ staff by supporting oversight for NHS operations, programmatic development and outreach, and chapter support. In addition, interns will aid staff by supporting NHS’ leadership, the Board of Directors and individual chapter heads, as well as supporting efforts to cultivate prospective members. Interns will assist in helping shape and deliver the NHS’ messaging through development of content for social media, newsletters, etc. for the benefit of the NHS’ Board of Directors, chapters, members, NHS stakeholders, and the public.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Additional Opportunities: Interns will be able to meet and interact with the NHS’ impressive “who’s who” roster of members. Interns will develop skills that will be useful in a variety of office settings.
Qualifications:
Additional Information: This role will be performed in our Alexandria, VA office, located just 15 minutes outside of Washington, DC and near the Van Dorn Street metro stop on the blue line. The incumbent will need to be located in the DC Metro area with the ability to get to and from the office. The rate for this role starts at $15/hour. Hours are flexible from Monday-Friday, 9am-5pm. This internship role can start in May/June 2018.

Duties and Responsibilities:
- Administrative Assistant:
- Provide administrative assistance and support to the Executive Director and Executive Assistant in all efforts to advance the NHS' mission
- Maintain secure database information of members, prospects, speakers, and NHS' contacts
- Draft press releases, newsletters, brochures, email blasts, and follow-up letters to members, prospects, stakeholders, and other third parties
- Assist Executive Director with Board of Directors interface and board meeting materials (agendas, minutes, action items, etc.)
- Assist to maintain social media and website content
- Assist in planning for NHS’ annual event, Heritage Weekend and Classic
- Provide administrative assistance and support to the Executive Director and Executive Assistant in all efforts to advance the NHS' mission
- Chapter Liaison:
- Work with NHS chapter leaders to develop and plan events
- Develop, maintain, and regularly update NHS chapter calendar of events
- Work with NHS chapter leaders to develop and plan events
- Programs and Outreach:
- Support development and implementation of NHS programs at the national and local levels
- Assist NHS staff in scheduling meetings, as well as coordinating and carrying out events
- Assist with the planning and implementation of the Heritage Greece Program (June 2018) and Heritage America Program (July 2018)
- Heritage Greece Alumni Network:
- Help coordinate Heritage Greece alumni as volunteers to assist chapter growth efforts, activities, programs, and Heritage Weekend and Classic
- Update alumni directory

Qualifications:
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree. All fields are eligible to apply but those especially applicable include non-profit management and development, business, marketing, and ancient/modern Greek studies.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office suite (i.e. MS Word, Excel, and Outlook) and Adobe suite
- Interested in learning about non-profit development and Greek American culture
- Strong attention to detail
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Excellent critical thinking/problem solving skills
- Demonstrates an understanding of a duty of confidentiality
- Task-oriented
- Self-starter
