![]() Last night, the National Hellenic Society, along with the Washington OXI Day Foundation, hosted a reception in honor of Greek Independence Day at the Almas Shriners Building in Washington, DC. NHS Members and many other prominent Greek Americans were present on this momentous occasion. NHS Executive Director Art Dimopoulos presented many of the programs that the National Hellenic Society has been working on, including promoting feature film Cliffs of Freedom. Additional speakers included Her Excellency Alexandra Papadopoulou, Ambassador of Greece to the United States, Representative Gus Bilirakis (R-FL), Jimmy Kokotas, Supreme President of the Order of AHEPA, and Diane Kochilas, renowned chef and host of My Greek Table. The highlight of the evening was a presentation by Ioannis Lefas on Who Owns History, Elgin's Loot and the Case for Returning Plundered Treasure by Geoffrey Robertson. The book, which was available free of charge for all members present, examines the contemporary problem of the return of cultural property taken from its country of creation in the case of the Parthenon Marbles. ![]() Last night, over 40 attendees came to Psomi Restaurant in Tampa for a joint National Hellenic Society & Leadership 100 reception. Rising star Chef Christina Theofilos spoke of her family’s Greek traditions, especially her mom’s culinary influence. NHS Chair Drake Behrakis welcomed guests and discussed the transformational Heritage Greece program. L100 chair and NHS board member, Jim Logothetis, remarked about collaborative efforts between organizations to better serve the next generation. Special guest, Diane Kochilas, spoke of her program, My Greek Table, and an upcoming season focused on the Greek American story. ![]() On March 22, members of The National Hellenic Society along with their friends and family enjoyed a reception at the upscale, beautiful Avra Restaurant in Beverly Hills with former University of Southern California President Max Nikias. Nikias spoke about leadership as inspired by the ancient philosopher: Xenophon. It was a truly fascinating discussion that gave NHS members a different perspective on leadership and engaged them in a fun conversation. Max Nikias will also join us at our most memorable event of the year, The National Hellenic Society's Heritage Weekend and Classic, which will take place in Las Vegas, Nevada October 5th - 8th. The NHS thanks owner of Avra, Nick Tsoulos, for his great hospitality, delicious food and wonderful "parea."
