![]() The National Hellenic Society's (NHS) Heritage Weekend and Classic returned to Las Vegas at the Encore at Wynn Las Vegas October 5-8, 2017 for a weekend of inspiring activities, programs, and entertainment. The weekend attracted over 350 prominent Greek American NHS members and guests. The Greek Reporter summed up the weekend in a great article! ![]() Every year, the National Hellenic Society honors various Greek Americans who have contributed to the community during the Saturday night gala at Heritage Weekend & Classic. This year’s honoree was NHS co-founder and chairman emeritus, George M. Marcus. He was presented with the inaugural George M. Marcus Award of Excellence, heretofore honoring exceptional individuals who have demonstrating long-held Hellenic values and ideals as embodied by the namesake of the award. Marcus and his wife, Judy, are active philanthropists, to which their largess have benefited countless faith-based, civic, cultural, and Hellenic organizations. Axios! ![]() The NHS welcomes Drake Behrakis as its new chairman. During the weekend’s corporate governance sessions, George Marcus passed the baton of leadership of the NHS as chairman of the board of directors to Drake Behrakis, and to Mike Galanakis as vice-chairman. Drake is President & CEO of Marwick Associates, a real estate investment and development company located in Lexington, Massachusetts. Prior to joining Marwick, Behrakis held various positions at Muro Pharmaceutical and the Gillette Company. He has been very involved in the NHS on the board, as a Boston chapter co-chair, and in various committees. Axios! |
