Los Angeles' NHS guests engage in timely discussion regarding today's news environment ![]() Seasoned journalist, NHS member and educator John Metaxas offered an informative presentation followed by a lively discussion March 23, 2017 at the Wilson & Harding Golf Course in Los Angeles' beautiful Griffith Park. In addition to addressing today's news climate, he also shared a glimpse into his diverse career. He challenged the guests to identify the first image in his presentation which set the stage. The photo depicted Senator Joseph McCarthy with his lawyer Ron Cohen who later was the lawyer and mentor of President Donald Trump. From there, he segued to one of his personal inspiration's, journalist Edward R. Murrow, whose See It Now show which criticized McCarthyism and led to the political downfall of the senator. John is an award-winning news reporter and anchor at WCBS Newsradio 880 and CBS 2 in New York. He has covered stories that range from politics and the New York City transit strike to the Bernard Madoff fraud hearings, the landing of the U.S. Airways jetliner in the Hudson River and Donald Trump's casinos.
Over the course of his career he has interviewed such world figures as Mikhail Gorbachev, Bill Clinton and Bill Gates. At CNN John anchored Your Money, the network's weekly look at personal finance issues. His reports appeared internationally on all of CNN's networks, including on the program Moneyline. John has also practiced law in New York. As Chief Corporate Communications and Government Affairs Officer for a Silicon Valley-based financial services/technology company he counseled the CEO on interaction with the news media and created messaging related to corporate strategy, investor relations, crisis management and regulatory issues. Guests also enjoyed an array of Greek specialties thanks to the special touch of Mike Begakis' Upstage Catering.
