![]() On Tuesday, December 7, 2021, the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors Proclaimed March 25, 2021 as Greek Independence Day. The official designation was completed in March, in which the county recognized that on March 25, 1821 "the Greek Nation began its fight for independence, in which many brave men and women stood up to battle for freedom from oppression, slavery and subjugation, and to liberate Greece after four long centuries of occupation." The dedication ceremony was postponed due to the pandemic and rescheduled for December 7th. Attached, please find photos and the video of the Meeting which was broadcast live on cable television throughout the Metropolitan Washington DC region. The NHS was joined by Theodoros Bizakis, Deputy Chief of Mission, Embassy of Greece, and Leon Andris, American Hellenic Institute. The National Hellenic Society accepted the Proclamation on behalf of AHEPA, the Hellenic American Women’s Council and Washington OXI Day Foundation. We have attached photos and a video from the dedication event, as well as a photo of the proclamation. |
