![]() The National Hellenic Society hosted a screening of the epic film Cliffs of Freedom as a part of its Bicentennial Celebration this evening at the Kennedy Center in Washington, DC. Cliffs of Freedom is a historical drama romance feature film inspired by actual events, based on the novel, Daughter of Destiny written by NHS member, Marianne Metropoulos. The film was produced by Marianne and Dean Metropoulos, Marianne also served as a co-scriptwriter of the film, with Dean as Executive Producer. The NHS is the proud steward of Cliffs of Freedom which is now available on Apple TV, Amazon Prime Video and Google Play. Cliffs of Freedom is inspired by actual events and accounts that transpired during the early stages during Greece's War for Independence in 1821. The lives, struggles, sacrifices and journey of the Greeks is on brilliant display as the film marks the first time their voices are brought to life through the magic of the silver screen. The production, acting, score and caliber of cast and crew are outstanding. We were fortunate to have many NHS members journey to our nation's capital from all over the country to join us for our screening. This complimentary screening of member Marianne Metropoulos' hit film was attended by NHS members and guests from up and down the East coast. The film continues to get rave reviews, and more and more Greeks from cities all over the country are hosting screenings of their own. Our guest speaker Ambassador Patrick Theros gave a brief background of the War of Greek Independence before the film began. The film received the round of applause and the audience was thrilled by the movie’s caliber, story-line and poignancy! The event finished off with lunch at a nearby restaurant. ![]() Marianne Metropoulos' screenplay and beautiful story set within the prism of the Greek War of Independence in 1821 is now a star-studded feature film playing at AMC Theaters nationwide (see list below). The film is produced by NHS members, the Metropoulos family. NHS urges our members, their respective families and friends to see & share the film especially with the next generation. The Greek spirit and quest for freedom is captured within the context of the impressive feature film that will teach and inspire all. The story is simple: a young Greek village girl falls in love with a handsome Turkish officer. The couple is besieged by conflicts posed within the context of the Greek War of Independence following four centuries of Ottoman Rule. We taken for granted the herculean efforts and sacrifices of our forebears. Share the story and film especially with the next generation. Their story is our story--one that we celebrate every March 25th that resonates with all free people. America's eloquent statesman and orator, Daniel Webster (Webster's Dictionary) was so moved by the Greek War of Independence he issued an epic addresses on the floor of the House of Representatives applauding the Greeks and their quest for freedom.
