Dr. Savas Dimopoulos, leading particle physicist from Stanford University kicks off Elios Society and National Hellenic Society Luncheon Series
NHS and Elios Society members and guests gathered at the intimate Evvia Estiatorio in Palo Alto, CA, May 9th for a special afternoon with one of the world's most renown particle physicists from Stanford University and complemented by the restaurant's delicious cuisine. The event was the first in a series of luncheons featuring outstanding guests representing the best of our heritage, inspiring and edifying us all.
Guest speaker, Dr. Savas Dimopoulos received a warm welcome from the over 40 guests. His research at the Large Haldron Colider at the CERN Laboratory in Geneva has yielded substantial findings leading to his theories on the nature of the universe, the possibilities of multiple universes, and other possible dimensions.
Elios Society President John Gumas announced the official beginning of affiliation between the Elios Society and National Hellenic Society (NHS) at their annual February member's meeting, convening at the Waterbar restaurant overlooking the SF Bay and Bay Bridge picturesque landscape. NHS Executive Director Art Dimopoulos shared an informative presentation about NHS' vision and programs including excerpts from the NHS co-production of the National Geographic produced, Greek Guide to Greatness. NHS signature program for college aged students is the Heritage Greece Program sponsored by the NHS and hosted by the American College of Greece in Athens. Heritage Greece Alumnus Nicholas Gumas described the life-changing impact and experience he shared with 50 other Greek American students, as well as students from Greece, on NHS’ signature program, the Heritage Greece Program (hosted by NHS and the American College of Greece in Athens). The affiliation of NHS & Elios members expands NHS Bay Area presence to nearly 100 members and warranted a champagne toast in celebration of the great things to come by working together!
