![]() This past Saturday, December 15, many of our Heritage Greece Program alumni attended the Mistletoe Gala in New York, NY. The gala was hosted by the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church at the Harvard Club in New York City, and created the opportunity for a miniature Heritage Greece reunion. The NHS is proud to see that the life long friendships created through this program continue to be lasting and continue to show signs of living on forever! ![]() New York - On Wednesday, December 5th, NHS Members Dennis & Karen Mehiel sponsored a meet and greet dinner at their home. NHS members, along with Heritage Greece alumni were present. This was the second event that the National Hellenic Society has hosted to connect students with prospective mentors who will be able to provide guidance and advice that will help them in the future. The event was incredibly successful and both NHS members and HG alumni in attendance are motivated to continue to foster the mentor/mentee relationship. We look forward to many more events like this as we launch this new phase of our Heritage Greece and Heritage America programs. NHS members, along with Heritage Greece alumni and Pan-Hellenic scholars were present. The purpose of the luncheon was to connect these students with prospective mentors who will be able to provide guidance and advice that will help them in the future. The National Hellenic Society is excited that the first of many events designed for fostering the Mentor/Mentee relationship between our members and our program participants was a success. We look forward to many more events like this as we launch this new phase of our Heritage Greece and Heritage America programs. Thank you Demetra and Ted Argeroplos for sponsoring this event to kick off this exciting new chapter! ![]() New York - This past weekend, Heritage Greece Alumni Dimitri Roumeliotis and John Banas attended the annual meeting of the National Hellenic Student Association (NHSA). They had the opportunity to address the conference attendees and made a presentation about the Heritage Greece Program and highlighted the benefits as well as how the program has impacted them. ![]() BOSTON - The Inaugural 2018 Heritage America Boston Program, sponsored by the National Hellenic Society, hosted 6 accomplished Greek-American students from across the country on August 11th in Boston, MA for an Athens of America Tour. This unique and proprietary program reconnects high school-aged Greek-American students with their roots, heritage, culture, and Hellenic identity through the prism of the American experience. Throughout the day, students met with prominent Greek-Americans; toured the Greek and Roman Art Wing of the Museum of Fine Arts; learned about the Greek revival influence and the impact of the first Greek's in Boston. Students were led in discussion by Professor Emeritus, Emmanuel "Manny" Paraschos, of Emerson College and accompanied by Heritage Greece Alums Elena Jacobson and Dimitria Yeannakopoulos. ![]() And they’re off! Every year, the National Hellenic Society sponsors Greek American college students on a two-week educational and cultural immersion experience at the American College of Greece to discover their heritage and culture through the Heritage Greece Program. This year, we are proud to sponsor 65 participants, joined by 13 peer students from ACG. Meeting in Washington, DC before heading to Greece tonight, the group visited the Harvard Center for Hellenic Studies, where they heard from several classicist and fellows, and the Greek Embassy where His Excellency Ambassador Lalacos and his diplomatic corps welcomed the participants and provided an overview of Greece’s challenges. They then visited Capitol Hill, where they met with Congressman John Sarbanes, Senator Chris Van Hollen, and the staffs of Congressman Gus Bilirakis, Congressman Charlie Crist, and Congresswoman Dina Titus! This is just the beginning of a life-long commitment to these Greek American ambassadors of Hellenic heritage! Safe travels and καλό ταξίδι παιδιά! ![]() The Hellenic American Women’s Council (HAWC) held their Annual Conference from November 3-4, 2017 in Boston. The topic of the conference was “Facets of Entrepreneurship: Creativity and Courage to Commit, highlighting panelists Andrew Demakes, Giorgos Zacharia, and Noel Giglio. In addition to working for Philips Healthcare, Noel serves as National Co-Chair of the NHS’ Heritage Greece Alumni Network. For more information about HAWC, please click here! |
