The National Hellenic Society hosted a summer luncheon at the beautiful NERAI restaurant for NHS and HABA members with special guest Michael Karzis, the Senior Producer at CBS' epic 60 Minutes.
The National Hellenic Society's New York Chapter hosted Dr. George Koutsouflakis, Markos Garras and teammates from the Institute of Historical & Archaeological Research at NERAI Restaurant for an exclusive inside look at their incredible discoveries. Dr. Koutsouflakis and his teams' discovery of 50+ ancient and medieval shipwrecks in the Fournoi Archipelago have made worldwide headlines. The team's discoveries have changed the paradigm of how ancient Greeks and other people in the region lived, worked & traded. Greece's launch of an Underwater Archaeological Museum is headline news all over the world. New technological advances and the way satellite imagery is used have provided scientists with tremendous capabilities and tools for exploration, especially underwater.
This past Thursday, the National Hellenic Society's New York Chapter alongside the American School of Classical Studies at Athens hosted a luncheon in honor of Mr. Malcolm H. Wiener. Wiener is an Aegean prehistorian who has written extensively about the Eastern Mediterranean world in the Bronze Age.
He is a major benefactor of the American School of Classical Studies at Athens and serves as Chairman Emeritus of the ASCSA Board of Trustees. During his term, he proposed and funded the Malcolm H. Wiener Laboratory for Agricultural Science at the school. Mr. Wiener spoke at the well attended event held at NERAI in Manhattan.
New York - On Wednesday, December 5th, NHS Members Dennis & Karen Mehiel sponsored a meet and greet dinner at their home. NHS members, along with Heritage Greece alumni were present. This was the second event that the National Hellenic Society has hosted to connect students with prospective mentors who will be able to provide guidance and advice that will help them in the future. The event was incredibly successful and both NHS members and HG alumni in attendance are motivated to continue to foster the mentor/mentee relationship. We look forward to many more events like this as we launch this new phase of our Heritage Greece and Heritage America programs. Thank you Karen and Dennis Mehiel for sponsoring this event to enrich this wonderful program!
