NHS Creates Opportunities | A Collaboration of the PanHellenic Scholarship Foundation with the Heritage Greece Program
Starting next year, The National Hellenic Society will collaborate with the PanHellenic Scholarship Foundation, a nonprofit organization honoring exceptional undergraduate students of Hellenic descent and supporting their efforts with significant monetary awards based on academic merit and financial need.
The nature of this collaboration will involve NHS’s signature program, Heritage Greece, which connects/reconnects eligible college-age Greek American students with their roots, heritage, culture, and Hellenic identity by taking them on a two-week culturally immersive journey to Greece. Given that PanHellenic Scholarship Foundation scholarship recipients meet the eligibility requirements and criteria of the NHS’ Heritage Greece Program, which requires being of Hellenic heritage, enrolled in a university/college and aged 18-26, and having a grade point average of 3.0 or higher, the NHS and the PanHellenic Scholarship Foundation have agreed to work together to extend up to 20 scholarships to PanHellenic Scholarship recipients. The PanHellenic Scholarship Foundation scholars will participate in the second session of the Heritage Greece Program, which will take place in July of each year. The NHS assesses a one-thousand-dollar ($1,000) charge for each student, which defrays orientation and round-trip airfare expenses to Greece.
These types of collaboration unite non-profit organizations across the US with similar interests and help strengthen the cultural education of Greek American students by giving them access to life-changing programs.
“I always wanted to be involved with other high achieving students of Greek descent…” said 2020 PanHellenic scholarship recipient Yiorgos Takoudis.
