WASHINGTON (January 25, 2013) — The Washington, DC regional chapter of the National Hellenic Society (NHS) launched its “Third Thursday” speaker series at a special luncheon with Congressman John Sarbanes on January 17, 2013. At this gathering of members and friends, Congressman Sarbanes expressed his support for NHS’ mission to preserve Hellenic heritage and emphasized the importance of passing on this heritage to future generations. In addition, he provided a snapshot of the Congress’ agenda for the new term and a useful update on the issues of importance to the Greek American community.
NHS DC Co-Chair Art Dimopoulos offered an overview of 2013 goals for programs and membership development. The expansion of regional chapters is a primary goal for NHS this year. Building an enduring network of like-minded, mission oriented members will yield relevant programs that preserve and sustain our heritage and legacy. Efforts will be focused on encouraging the involvement of the members at the regional level and on soliciting their feedback and suggestions for proposed programs.
Held on the third Thursday of each month, these informal luncheons to be will bring together prominent Greek-Americans to exchange views with our members on topics of common interest and will be an opportunity to engage the members in the development of program ideas.
