1821 War of Independence Bicentenary
June 17, 2021
On the occasion of the bicentennial of the Hellenic War of Independence, the Benaki Museum, in cooperation with the Bank of Greece, the National Bank of Greece and ALPHA BANK, presents the exhibition "1821 Before and After". Drs. Anastassios Sakellaropoulos and Maria Dimitriadou, exhibition curators, sheds light on artefacts and documents from the period between 1770 and 1880, the first 100 years of modern Hellenism. The narration follows three axes: the intellectual and economic course of the War of Independence, its development and its milestones, and the first 50 years in the life of the modern Greek State. The NHS Talks Stories will also make a particular reference to Antonis Benakis, a Diaspora Greek and a collector of unique items connected with these 100 years.
